First batch of Sir Novelle Richards students receives permits in historic driver’s education course

The Sir Novelle Richards Academy (SNRA) has made history as the first school
in Antigua and Barbuda to successfully introduce drivers’ education classes.

The initiative is geared towards students 15 years and older and the course is
being delivered in collaboration with the Antigua and Barbuda Transport
Board.

A set of students began the course in February, and the first batch has already
received permits and will proceed to their practical lessons.

Officials say the curriculum is split into theory and practical components. The
Transport Board delivers the theory classes, while the practical component
will be taught by authorized driving instructors.

The curriculum is said to place emphasis on traffic laws and road rules.
Students also are taught to know their vehicle, safe driving, and other related
matters.

The goal of this project, according to officials, is to prepare the students to
receive their learners’ permit and license once they have satisfied all
requirements set by the Transport Board.

It was noted that successful students “will contribute to increasing the pool of
responsible drivers in our country and will expand their real-world skill sets.”

Sir Novelle Richards Academy says it remains committed to the holistic
development of every student, and is grateful to the Transport Board and
other partner agencies that have assisted in the actualization of this vision.
