Three-vehicle highway accident sends 30 students to the hospital with
minor injuries

Over 30 people are still nursing injuries, albeit minor, following a three-
vehicle smash-up on the Sir Sydney Walling Highway on a rain-soaked
Tuesday, yesterday, May 7.

According to reports, 30 students and two adults had to be rushed to the Sir
Lester Bird Medical Centre for treatment after the accident.

Further reports say that 26 children were being shuttled home in a school bus,
heading from west to east on the major highway, when the incident occurred.

Allegations are that the bus driver was attempting to pass a vehicle that had
stopped in front of him when he collided with a truck traveling in the opposite
direction.

Allegedly, a police officer who was driving an SUV then ran into the back of the
bus.

Reportedly, the bus driver was not hurt; however, the 26 students and the
conductor were injured as a result of the impact.

The police officer also had four students in his vehicle, and they, too, were
injured during the accident. Accordingly, all five occupants, according to
reports, were transported to the hospital.

None of the injuries sustained in the accident were considered life-
threatening.

As the Police continue to warn drivers to be cautious when driving, the Traffic
Department is continuing its investigations into the accident.

Officials are also mulling legal solutions to curb the frequency of such
accidents.
