Nineteen-year-old Clarence Cameron, charged for murder of Bendals teen, makes first court appearance today

The young man arrested and charged for the country’s fourth homicide made
his first court appearance before Magistrate Ngaio Emmanuel today, May 9,
and was given a committal date of July 3.

Nineteen-year-old Clarence Cameron of Bendals is charged with the stabbing
death of Omarrie Graham, also of Bendals, on Saturday night, May 4, during an
altercation in the village.

Cameron has been placed on remand, since murder is an indictable offense for
which only a judge can grant bail.

Accordingly, he will have to make an application in the High Court if he wishes
to be released pending his committal proceedings and subsequent trial.

The maximum penalty for this capital offence is life imprisonment.
According to reports, Graham, 17, succumbed to his injuries on the scene,
after having been stabbed with a sharp implement multiple times about the
body.

He is said to have sustained wounds to the left side of his neck, left forearm,
and left wrist.

Cameron, who reportedly fled after the fatal altercation, was picked up by the
Police soon after and taken into custody for questioning.
