Officers find nothing illegal during widespread stop-and-search exercises conducted Friday night

One vehicle was seized and a number of people ticketed as a result
of a recent stop-and-search operation conducted by law-
enforcement officers.

According to reports, several senior officers from the B Division, the
Criminal Investigations Department, the Narcotics Department, the
Proceeds of Crime Unit, the Traffic Department, the K9 Unit, and the
Special Services Unit – in addition to two Antigua and Barbuda
Defence Force officers – conducted multiple exercises within the B
Division and its outskirts last Friday, December 8.

The joint operation commenced at 1:30 a.m. and concluded at about
3:15 a.m.

Reports say that 54 vehicles were stopped and searched in the
vicinities of Lightfoot and Sir Sydney Walling Highway; Parham
corner; the junctions of Collins and Pares Main Roads; Sir. George
Walter Highway; Pigotts Main Road; and Whenner Road, but
nothing illegal was found.

However, as a result of the exercise, one vehicle was taken to the
Government Motor Pool; three people were issued traffic tickets;
and four persons who were not in possession of their driver’s
license were given instructions to produce the identification at the
nearest police station at specific times and dates.
