Weekend traffic offenses, including serious accidents, lead Police to clamp down on dangerous drivers

With a number of serious vehicle collisions over the past few days –
including one that landed two people in the hospital with various injuries –
the Police have been clamping down on motorists who breach traffic
regulations.

To this end, following a recent operation, several drivers have been penalized
for dangerous driving, the Police report. Accordingly, five people will be
appearing before the Traffic Court this week after being arrested and charged.
Last Friday, April 26, the Traffic Department conducted several checks at
major intersections across the island and arrested these drivers for going
through a red light.

The Police say that a total of 52 traffic tickets were issued to drivers for
various violations, including failure to wear seat belts, missing license plates,
and heavily tinted vehicles.

Several vehicles were also impounded for being unlicensed and were taken to
the Government Motor Pool.

The Traffic Department is appealing to motorists to drive with due care and
attention and avoid speeding.
Meanwhile, at least one of the drivers involved in Friday morning’s smash-up
on the Sir Sydney Walling Highway will face charges for dangerous driving.

Reports say that two Honda FIT vehicles were travelling in opposite directions
when the collision occurred.

The vehicles sustained extensive damage, while one driver sustained serious
injuries to his leg. Both drivers reportedly are still receiving treatment for
their injuries.

In the meantime, on Saturday night, April 27, there was another serious
accident that involved a truck and a car on the All Saints Road.

Pictures of the scene show the extensive damage sustained by both vehicles.
However, up to news time, the extent of the drivers’ injuries, if any, was not
known.
