Ayre Foundation to the rescue again, as traffic-accident victim is flown to Cayman Islands for orthopedic surgery

The survivor of an accident that occurred almost five months ago
has been airlifted to the Cayman Islands for further medical
treatment.

Thanks to the generosity of the Calvin Ayre Foundation, which
provided the airlift, Andy Edwards will be undergoing orthopedic
surgery to try to restore his mobility.

Edwards was involved in a collision on the Sir Sydney Walling
Highway on Thursday, May 4, when his passenger bus collided head-
on with a truck travelling in the opposite direction.

Reports said the truck was heading westwards on the highway and,
while attempting to overtake, the driver lost control and collided
with Edwards’ vehicle, going in the opposite direction.

The 48-year-old, self-employed bus-driver’s legs were pinned under
the dashboard, resulting in severe injuries, and local doctors have
advised him to seek orthopedic surgery overseas.

Most people are unable to afford the cost of an air ambulance, and so
the Calvin Ayre Foundation has been assisting critically injured
patients with air transportation. Edward’s flight cost a little over
US$40,000, reports say.
