Police investigate another attempt at shaking down a business owner under the guise of advancing funds from the Treasury

An apparent “shakedown” by someone purporting to be an
employee of the Government Treasury is being investigated.

It is alleged that the Cassada Gardens owner of Frankie’s Trucking
reported to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) that he
had been contacted, by phone, by a person purporting to be “Mr.
Roberts” from the Treasury Department.

The person reportedly said he could assist the businessman in
getting funds he was owed from the Department.
However – as an incentive to speed up the process – the caller said
he would need some funds to pay two young women who work at
the Treasury.

This incident is alleged to have occurred at about 10:44 a.m. on July
10.

A source says that a statement has been taken from the victim and
he has been given certain directives.

Several weeks ago, REAL News reported on a similar situation in
which the victim handed over several thousand dollars before
wising-up to the scam.

Over the years, contractors have alleged that this method of
securing payment actually takes place at the Treasury. While these
reports have not been substantiated, insiders claim that colleagues
have been transferred because of this practice.
