Insiders allege corruption within Police Traffic Department, claiming that money paid for funeral-escort services is handled ‘personally’

Details involving an alleged corruption ring within the Police Force – and,
specifically, the Traffic Department – are surfacing, law-enforcement sources
say, and members of the cabal have been transferred to other areas of the
Force, they claim.

The sources tell REAL News that officers have been collecting thousands of
dollars and depositing the money into an account held by a middle-ranked
policeman.

Allegedly, the funds are the proceeds of escort services paid by families to
funeral homes. Apparently, most funeral packages include the provision of
police motorcycles and out-riders to accompany the procession to the church
and the cemetery.

Reportedly, the funeral home would make cheques payable to the said officer,
and these were then deposited into an account on which he and a female
officer are the signatories. “What became of the after that is a mystery,” the
inside sources claim.

This scheme amounts to residents paying officers for escort services that
involve the use of the Force’s vehicles even while they are on official duty, the
sources complain.

In April, the sources allege, a former police officer was billed for escort
services that used police motorcycles and outriders as part of the funeral
package for a family member. This has led to questions being asked
about how much money has been collected, so far; where the money has gone;
and how long the so-called ring has been operating.

Observers also want to know how this alleged scheme could have operated
under the nose of the department head.

Apart from the alleged transfers, there appears to have been no disciplinary
action taken against those reportedly involved in this reported scheme.
