Workshop held to prep competitors in Annual Community Gardens and Beautification contest

A workshop was held today, Tuesday, April 9, and will continue
on Thursday, April 11, at the Pares Secondary School to prepare
participants for the Annual Community Gardens and
Beautification Competition.

The community development field officer in the Community
Development and Citizens Engagement Division, Sharon Dalso,
says the workshops are aimed at educating the competition
participants on crucial topics such as horticulture and pest
control.

Dalso notes that adjudication for the competition will be held in
two phases – May 13 to 16 and October 14 to17 – an approach
that was adopted to accommodate gardens that bloom at different
seasons.

According to the field officer, registration for the competition has
been going on since December, and she is extending an invitation
to interested persons to register now.

Dalso says categories for the competition include Best Home
Garden, Best Business Garden, and Best Kept Community.
The competition caters for different types of gardens, including
herbs and spices, fruit, vegetable, water gardens, hydroponics,
and the like.
