St. Paul  caretaker Athill parts company with the UPP, citing ideological differences

Confirmation has come from the United Progressive Party (UPP) that its St. Paul caretaker, Dr. Cleon Athill, has resigned from the Party.

Dr. Athill ran in that constituency in the January 18, 2023, General Election, which she lost to Antigua Labour Party candidate Paul Chet Greene.

Dr. Athill’s letter of resignation was received last Friday evening, February 23, by the Party’s general secretary, Senator Shawn Nicholas, and it cited ideological differences among the reasons for her departure.

The full letter was published by the Observer Media Group on Sunday.

A statement from the UPP, also put out that day, reads, “On behalf of the the United Progressive Party, the “Redeem Team,” and the St. Paul Branch, the Leadership extends its gratitude to Dr. Athill for her service to our organization and to the constituency these past four years, as well as its best wishes in her continued professional pursuits.”
