MP Simon says Government should remove ‘red tape’ to make
private donations of medical supplies easier

St. Mary’s South MP Kelvin “Shugy” Simon has been able to make a
donation of much-needed medical supplies to two clinics in his
constituency.

Initially, on Tuesday, February 6, he was denied the opportunity to
deliver these items to the Bolans and Johnsons Point clinics,
although he had received a waiver of duty from the Ministry of
Health, allowing him to clear the items at the Port.

The following day, however, he received the required permission
from the Ministry, and on Wednesday, February 7, Simon returned
to the clinics to present the essential items to the nurses and staff.
The donation included non-prescription items, such as wheelchairs,
gauze, painkillers and ointments.

The MP is hoping that the Government will remove the “red tape” so
that future donations to medical facilities, by private persons, can be
made easier.

He says the Government must implement more “people centered”
policies to ensure that the vulnerable can get the help they need via
such donations.

Simon has been pushing his tagline “Uplifting Lives in St. Mary’s
South” as he seeks to develop the constituency and its residents.
