Second escapee captured and is now facing charges before deportation to Jamaica

Both Jamaican women who escaped from the Immigration
Department’s detention centre are now in custody, as the second
female was captured in a location on the northern side of the island.
Donnallee Samantha Salmon, 23, was apprehended by the Police on
Tuesday night, January 30, in the Crosbies area.

She, along with her counterpart, 30-year-old  Tiffanie Stephanie
Howell, a hairdresser, arrived in Antigua over a week ago but
apparently were denied entry.

They were taken to the Immigration Detention Centre to be held
until they could be sent back home on the next available flight.
However,  the pair managed to escape, on January 20, by breaking a
window in the room where they were being held.

They now face deportation from Antigua and Barbuda. First,
however, Salmon is expected to be charged for escaping lawful
custody, as Howell has been.

On Tuesday, January 30, Howell — who had turned herself in to the
authorities over the weekend — was sentenced to seven months for
escaping from detention.

She had appeared in the All Saints Magistrates Court before
Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel the day before, at which time she
admitted to committing the offence.

Howell could have faced up to one year in prison; but her previous
good character, personal circumstances, and age were contributing
factors to the sentence which she eventually received.

In handing down sentence, the magistrate had considered that
Howell had spent seven days on the run and resources had been
diverted to the search; in addition, she considered the damage done
to the window.

Meanwhile, it is alleged that the escape and the method by which to
do so had been planned. Reports also say that others were
implicated in the plot.
