After more than a week on the run, one Jamaican escapee turns herself in to the Immigration Department

One of two Jamaican women who escaped from the Immigration
Detention Centre more than a week ago is now back in the custody
of Immigration officials.

Reports coming from the Immigration Department say that Tiffanie
Stephanie Howell, 30, turned herself in to the authorities over the
weekend.

Howell, along with Donnalee Samantha Salmon, escaped from the
detention centre at Coolidge allegedly by breaking a window in the
area where they had been held.

The duo made good their escape on January 20, and Howell, a
hairdresser, had been on the run since.

Meanwhile, Immigration officials continue their search for Salmon,
23, a student.

An appeal is being made for her to turn herself in, even as the
Department continue seeking the public’s assistance in recapturing
this fugitive.

Both women allegedly were sponsored by a Trinidad and Tobago
national with Antigua and Barbuda citizenship.
This is certainly not the first time that detainees have escaped from
the Centre.

Accordingly, residents say that better structures and safeguards
need to be put in place since it appears that security is easily
breached.
