Alleged gunpoint robberies downtown yield electronic devices, cash and clothing; but police find no suspects

Two robberies – one of which involves a Canadian citizen – are
being investigated by the Police.

Reports say that a 22-year-old Marble Hill resident complained to
the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) that he had been
robbed of his Samsung Galaxy A31 smartphone and $50 in cash by a
man he knows only as “Percy.”

This offence reportedly occurred during the evening hours, several
days ago, downtown St. John’s.

Reports say that while the victim and a friend were walking and
playing music on Redcliffe Street, the young man encountered
“Percy,” who exited a restaurant and told him he was carrying a gun.

Allegedly, “Percy” then took away the victim’s phone and money and
walked away, instructing the youth and his friend not to follow him.

A search was carried out for “Percy” and the stolen items, but
without success.

Meanwhile, a Canadian citizen of Antiguan parentage reported to
the St. John’s Police Station at Dredge Bay that he had been robbed
by two unknown young men.

During the incident, the perpetrators reportedly relieved him of
his Lenovo laptop, valued at EC$900; an iPad valued at $2,000;
US$40 and EC$10 in cash; one Canadian passport; his mother’s birth
certificate; and a quantity of men’s clothing in a black pull-on
suitcase.

It is alleged that the victim was at the Twist Mall on Redcliffe Street,
at about 6:30 p.m. on January 20, when he was approached by these
two unknown young men, who told him they knew of a place he
could stay.

Reportedly, the pair took the visitor to an unknown location, where
one of them pointed a shiny object at his back and indicated that it
was a gun.

At this point, the victim claims, the other robber went through his
suitcase and removed the items.

The visitor managed to escape from the robbers and found the St.
John’s Police Station.

A search was carried out in the district and outskirts for anyone
fitting the description of the alleged perpetrators and the stolen
items, but without success.

One of the unknown men is said to be about 5’ 11” in height, dark in
complexion, of a stocky  build, and was dressed in a white shirt and
dark pants.

The other robber is described as being about 5’ 9,” of a slim build,
and was dressed in dark clothing and wearing a braided hairstyle.
