Venezuelan charged with drug offences allegedly assaulted by
cell mate and missed first court hearing

A Venezuelan national charged with possession of cocaine
reportedly was unable to make his scheduled first court appearance
in the All Saints Magistrate’s Court reportedly because he had been
badly beaten up.

Sources claim that another man – who is well-known to the court
and was detained in the same holding cell at the station – had beaten
40-year-old Renzo Eduardo Sanoja of Venezuela, to a pulp.

Because of the alleged beating, the Spanish man was in no condition
to be taken before the magistrate, the sources state.

However, attempts were to be made to take Sanoja for his first court
appearance today, Tuesday, October 24.

Reports say the Police arrested and charged the Venezuelan for
having 907 grammes of cocaine in his possession.

It is alleged that Sanoja was intercepted at the V.C. Bird International
Airport last Wednesday, October 18, during a joint drug operation
between the Police and Customs.

Reportedly, while being interrogated, he confessed that he had
ingested a total of 74 cocaine pellets.

He was immediately taken to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre,
where he subsequently expelled the controlled substance.
The police later charged Sanoja with possession of cocaine,
importation of cocaine, possession with intent to transfer, and being
concerned with the supply of cocaine.

The substance has an estimated street value of EC$63,236.
