Senator Joseph says Solid Waste’s failure to collect garbage in parts of St. Mary’s North is unacceptable

Senator Johnathan Joseph, the United Progressive Party (UPP)
caretaker for St. Mary’s North, is appealing to the National Solid
Waste Management Authority to remove the uncollected garbage in
two villages in the constituency.

Joseph says the waste has been left since Friday, October 20, and
remains there even after the passage of Hurricane Tammy, which did
not directly impact Antigua.

Had the storm brought more rainfall and heavy winds, this waste
would have been strewn all over the communities and might have
ended up blocking the waterways and contributing to flooding.

The UPP caretaker says he does not know what the issue at Solid
Waste is, but the Authority needs to get a handle on it.

On a regular basis the Authority puts out notices that inform the
public about delays in its collection schedule.

But this situation, Joseph says, is unacceptable, as uncollected waste
creates a health hazard by providing breeding sites for vermin.

Meanwhile, he is thanking the bakeries in the constituency for their
contribution of bread, which he was able to deliver to several
constituents on Sunday, October 22, following the passage of the
storm.
