Candidate and supporters are ready for UPP nomination exercise, the ‘Shugycade,’ and the public rally

Today, October 9, is Nomination Day in St. Mary’s South, and Kelvin
“Shugy” Simon, the United Progressive Party (UPP) candidate, says
he is ready for the formalities.

With this being his second go-around at nomination in less than a
year, Simon says he knows what to do and what not to do.

He notes that the process leading up to the January 18 General
Election has equipped him and his team with the knowledge and
necessary experience.

Now, he knows where adjustments are required, whereas he was
not familiar with certain areas for the last polls.

Simon assures supporters that his team of 10 is ready for
mobilization and will be going to the Bolans Primary School for 9:30
a.m. to complete the nomination, which will be conducted by
Returning Officer Denese Parker.

Meanwhile, the UPP is planning on making Nomination Day a grand
one, with an activity dubbed the “Shugycade” departing the Bolans
Playing Field at 5:30 p.m.

This caravan of vehicles will wend its way to the Urlings Playing
Field for the Party’s scheduled public rally, which was postponed
from last Thursday, October 5, due to the soggy condition of the field
after Tropical Storm Philippe.

The meeting gets underway at 7:30 p.m., with Simon down to be the
featured speaker.

Meanwhile, UPP Chairman D.Gisele Isaac says Simon has more than
the legally required 10 nominees ready to back him.

She adds that the Party has been looking forward to today, because
it sets the tone for the by-election and will demonstrate that the UPP
remains on the move.

She recalls that on the last Nomination Day, leading to the January
18 polls, there was a gathering of the Party’s candidates and
supporters that generated great excitement. This, she believes,
could be the tone for today, going into the rally later this evening.

The chairman says that whenever UPP supporters come together it
is always a joyful event. Therefore, she is encouraging persons who
missed the three previous rallies to come out and attend the event
tonight, as the meetings have been growing in size.
