Board announces new principal, Verlyn Richards, to run St. John’s Catholic Primary

A new principal has been appointed to run the affairs of the St.
John’s Catholic Primary School, replacing former principal Sister
Marie Voltaire.

The board has appointed Verlyn Richards as principal, with this
being announced to parents and benefactors of the school in a letter
dated September 11.

Richards, who has been with the school for the past 22 years, is a
trained teacher, holding a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics
education from the University of the West Indies.

A devout Catholic, Richards “believes in the words of Pope John Paul
II, where he stated that the Catholic school is characterized by its
unique reference to the human person, since every person, with
their material and spiritual needs, is at the centre of Jesus’ teaching;
therefore, the promotion of the human person forms the objective of
a Catholic school.”

For over 22 years Richards has moulded the young minds of
students in all grades and has worked with her colleagues to
produce scores of top students in the Grade Six National
Assessment.

The Board says it believes that Richards’ years of teaching
experience and management will be effective in advancing the
holistic development of students.

In extending a warm welcome to the new principal, the Board
thanked her for her leadership role of the Catholic primary school
and pledged its continued support.

A special thank you was also extended to the former principal,
Voltaire, for her impeccable years of service.
