GPO headquarters closed on Wednesday for suspected mop-up operations, after 12 pounds of cannabis are seized on premises

The headquarters of the General Post Office remained closed to the
public on Wednesday, October 3, as a result of the passage of
Tropical Storm Philippe.

The post office is well known for its issues with the leaky roof,
which, in the past, have resulted in the building being flooded.

And while the notice of closure did not explain why operations
remained closed on Wednesday, it is believed that rain from the
storm had accumulated in the building and time was needed to have
it mopped up.

Officials say that business operations will resume on Thursday,
October 4, at 8:15 a.m. In the meantime, regular mail service and
stamp sales were available at the Woods branch.

Meanwhile, and on another note, 12 pounds of cannabis were seized
on the premises of the General Post Office. The drug was removed
to the custody of the Police, following a search operation on Monday,
October 2.

Reports say that officers and the Customs Department discovered
12 packages of the controlled substance inside three separate boxes.
The drug carries an estimated street value of $72,000.
