Couple involved in Woods Mall brawl with police remanded until June 15 trial date; accused already known to the Court

The rowdy couple accused of fighting with police officers at the Woods Mall on Saturday, May 7, has been remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison.

Chantel Sibilist, a 24-year-old Jamaican, and Jahwer Christopher, her 35-year-old partner, both of Marble Hill, appeared in the St. John’s Magistrates’ Court this morning, May 10, before Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh.

The Police have charged both accused with several counts of battery on police; resisting arrest; and malicious damage, among other related offences, following the incident.  Sibilist has more charges than her partner.

They pleaded not guilty to the charges, and were remanded to prison until June 15, the date set for the trial.

A source has indicated, however, that the couple may change their plea, and so the case could be brought forward.

Real News understands that Christopher has previous convictions of a similar nature to include brawling, making use of insulting and threatening language.

Reportedly his criminal record conviction card is full to capacity both back and front with like offences, for which he was previously convicted and varying penalties imposed.

He also reportedly appeared before the Chief Magistrate on previous occasions.

According to reports, Sibilist was ordered to be deported from Antigua and Barbuda in the past, but told the Court she was a juvenile at that time.

Reportedly, an Immigration officer who was in court at the time confirmed that the woman had been deported before.

The duo is being represented by attorney Lawrence Daniel.
