Villa teen is arrested and charged with robbery and shooting on school compound and will appear in court this week

The teenager who was involved in a daylight robbery and shooting
on a school compound in St. John’s has been charged and will make
his first court appearance this week.

The 17-year-old Villa youth was taken into police custody late last
week following the commission of the offense, which occurred last
Sunday evening, June 4. He was arrested and charged for robbery
and for shooting with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

CCTV cameras recorded the incident and show that the young man,
along with an accomplice, went onto the premises of the St. Joseph’s
Academy, where they accosted Shane Anthony of Yorks Village, the
maintenance supervisor at the school.

Armed with flare guns, the duo and made demands for money and
robbed Anthony of $120 in cash and his cell phone.

Anthony was shot in the face – on the left earlobe and below the ear
– when he attempted to defend himself and bat away their flare
guns. The teenager and his accomplice then ran from the scene.
So far, there have been no reports on the teenager’s accomplice, who
apparently has gone into hiding.
