Brazen robbery of Popeshead Street restaurant sends cashier and patrons into panicked attempts to escape masked gunmen

There was a chaotic scene at a popular restaurant in St. John’s on Sunday, May
5, when patrons had to flee for their lives after gunmen invaded the
Popeshead Street business.

Reports say that gunshot erupted as the men entered the Pita Pocket
restaurant, where several customers were waiting to be served.

Upon the robbers forcing themselves into the building, the patrons began a
panicked attempt to exit the restaurant.  Video surveillance footage shows one
woman crawling on the floor and out the door as the masked gunmen rushed
the counter.

In an effort to escape, the female cashier burrows under the counter, which
one of the robbers scales. He then grabs cash from the register, which he
hands to his accomplice, before they both flee from the scene.

One of the robbers even trips as he is running to the door.

The Police were immediately summoned to the scene but the bandits were
able to evade capture.
