UPP’s ‘Youth Connect’ recognizes importance of young people in creating political and economic change

“Youth Connect,” the initiative being hosted by the United Progressive Party
(UPP) tonight, April 18, is critically important in spreading the message that
this country needs a change in government, the Party says.

Under the theme, “The Contributions of Youth Talent to Socio-economic
Development,” this event is also designed to inspire, educate, and empower
the Nation’s young people.

Young people make up the majority of the population; and it is commonly held
that, in order for any political party to win the vote, it must focus attention on
this demographic.

Damani Tabor, the Party’s public relations officer, says the UPP realizes this
fact. And this is why it is seeking to show the youth that what they are
receiving from the Browne Administration amounts to mere “table scraps,”
since more can be done to empower them.

Tonight, Senator Damion Crawford – the shadow minister of education and
community development for the People’s National Party (PNP) of Jamaica –
will be speaking to the Youth Connect audience.

Among other issues, he will be discussing the important role that young
people can play in the political arena and how impactful their votes are, as he
delivers the keynote address.

Other persons set to address the audience include Sowerby Gomes, technical
director of the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association, and two
entrepreneurs: MP Anthony Smith and Tricia Edwards, the owner of TK Tops.
They will be speaking on the topic, “How is Today’s Economy Affecting the
Youth? The Disparity Between Economic Growth and Their Pockets.”

The night will also offer several activities aimed at engaging the youth, and
there will be a performance by UCG Entertainment.
