Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health get largest shares of the 2024 budget, with $184m and $160m, respectively

The Ministry of Education, Creative Industries and Sports has
received the largest chunk of the 2024 budget, receiving
some $184.2 million towards its plans and programmes for the new
fiscal year.
 

The Ministry of Health, Wellness, Social Transformation and the
Environment has received the second largest allocation, which is
$160.5 million, in an effort to improve healthcare standards
following the closure of several clinics.
 
The Ministry of Finance, Corporate Governance and Public Private
Partnerships has been allocated $134.9 million, including $9.5
million for the Barbuda Council.
 
The Ministry of Housing, Works, Lands and Urban Renewal gets
$114.6 million, while the Attorney General’s Office and Ministry of
Legal Affairs, Public Safety, Immigration and Labour gets $114.4
million.
 
The other allocations are: Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Agriculture,
Trade and Barbuda Affairs $52.7 million; the Ministry of Tourism,
Civil Aviation, Transportation, and Investment $37.6 million; the
Ministry of Information Communication Technologies (ICTs),
Utilities and Energy $15.3 million; and the Office of the Prime
Minister $42.7 million.
 
Prime Minister Gaston Browne says the MPs will present the details
of the programmes to be undertaken by their ministries during the
Budget Debate, which begins next Tuesday, December 19.
 
However, he says the 2024 budget also includes allocations for
the Legislature, the judiciary, Audit, Cabinet, and the Office of the
Governor General, among others.
 
Included in its 2024 plans, the Browne Administration will seek to
complete the National Population and Housing Census; strengthen
project management, internal audit, and risk management functions;
and implement the new Finance Administration Act and the
new Procurement Act and its Regulations.
