Restructuring of National Housing has come too late, Tabor says, as he repeats calls for transparency in agency’s finances

Efforts now being made by the Gaston Browne Administration to re-
organise National Housing has come a little too late, says Damani
Tabor, the United Progressive Party (UPP) public relations officer.

The Government has not presented audited financial statements for
the agency since it came into being almost a decade ago, and the
Opposition has been calling for accountability since – especially
after Lennox Weston, the former junior minister of finance, made
certain revelations.

Weston had declared that the agency was “burning money.”

If everything is above board with National Housing, Tabor says, the
Government needs to produce the financial records.

According to Tabor, once the requisite information is made
available, Opposition parliamentarians will bring to light the true
state of affairs at the agency and why the 2 percent increase in the
Antigua and Barbuda Sales Tax (ABST) is not justified.

In fact, Tabor says, this restructuring of the agency is coming about
only because of the pressure the Opposition has placed on the
Administration.
