Issues-based campaign and not transactional politics worked well for UPP and Simon’s election victory, Pringle says

MP Jamale Pringle, the political leader of the United Progressive
Party (UPP), says the Party’s strategy of running an issues-based
election – instead of transactional politics – worked very well and
helped to secure the victory of Kelvin “Shugy” Simon.

Simon won the October 24 by-election after having tendered his
resignation from the House of Representatives on June 7, paving the
way for the poll to be called in 120 days.

During the campaign, he outlined a number of plans to develop the
constituency, and promised they would be completed – even
without the support of the Government.

Pringle says that most of the people in the South are focused on
issues affecting their lives and livelihood – rather than being
pacified by money, which will not outlast their troubles.

The political leader recounts an incident on By-Election Day in
which a group of young men expressed interest in hearing Simon’s
plans for the constituency before they went to cast their ballots.

Pringle says these youth wanted to ensure they will be a part of the
development process and not simply have things pushed in front of
them.

Meanwhile, Pringle thanked the strategy team for its hard work,
dedication, and the long hours it spent planning to ensure that
Simon was returned to the House of Representatives.

He says the entire Party played a vital role in the campaign efforts,
resulting in this election victory.
