Pringle revisits Browne Administration’s string of failed projects in St. Mary’s South

Jamale Pringle, political leader of the United Progressive Party
(UPP), is highlighting, once again, the failure of several projects that
were promised to the St. Mary’s South constituency by the Gaston
Browne Administration.

Speaking at a press conference on October 2, Pringle said the
Antigua Labour Party (ALP) has done nothing during its two terms
in office, except make promises about pie-in-the-sky projects.

He highlighted some of its unsuccessful undertakings, including the
delivery of regular pipe-borne water, and said the people must
reject the type of leadership that continously peddles lies and
stories.

Pringle reminds his audience that a health and wellness centre was
promised at the Valley Church Beach, and this is yet to materialize.

Further, he recalls that amendments were made to the Special
Economic Zone Act to accommodate the Western Imperial Special
Economic Zone (WISEZ); however, to date, this project has not even
begun.

According to Pringle, in that instance, the only person who
benefitted from the agreement was the prime minister, whose Jolly
Beach property was rented to the investor for a significant monthly
sum.

He points, as well, to the other Special Economic Zone that includes
Guiana Island – the YIDA project – which is now up for sale.

Pringle adds that there are several other aborted projects in the St.
Mary’s South constituency, including the Best Western Hotel
development near Jolly Beach.

With all these failed projects, the Opposition leader notes, the
Browne Administration is now attempting “to do the most” in the
constituency – including repairing the infrastructure ahead of the
by-election – in an effort to create a comfortable majority in the
Lower House.

But Pringle says the people of the South will not allow Browne and
his Antigua Labour Party to win the St. Mary’s South seat.

Accordingly, he is encouraging the residents, come by-election day,
to do the right thing and vote for the better candidate, who is Kelvin
“Shugy” Simon.

Pringle says the UPP is poised and ready to take back the seat and
return Simon to the hallowed halls of Parliament. And he notes that
Simon has the full backing of the Party, as was the case on January
18 when he was victorious in the General Election.

Meanwhile, the UPP political leader also refers to another failed
project – this one in All Saints East and St. Luke – a Waldorf-Astoria
property, which should have been constructed by a Middle Eastern
investor at Morris Bay.
