Government worker continues picket outside Legal Affairs, demanding to be paid $4k she is owed

A resident who is owed money by the Government found herself
back on a one-woman picket line on Tuesday, August 1,
Emancipation Day, demanding to be paid.

The placard-bearing picketer, Laurain Henry, says she has been
owed for almost two years, since November 22, 2021, when she
went on vacation for 38 days.

Further, she is claiming back pay that was awarded to everyone else
– except her. Henry alleges that a list of those eligible for said
compensation was sent to the Treasury, but her name was not
included.

Henry claims she is owed just over $4,000.  And, reportedly, after
staging a similar action four weeks ago, she was advised that a
cheque was being held for her at the Treasury.
When she went to check, however, she reportedly was told there
was nothing there for her.

According to Henry, she feels like the officials are “sending the fool a
little further,” but she is vowing to continue her picket every day
until she gets her money.

On Tuesday, she stood outside the Ministry of Legal Affairs, which
also houses the office of Attorney-General Steadroy “Cutie”
Benjamin, carrying a placard asking, “Where is my money?” It
added: “Save the empty promises for the foolish. I will not be
silenced.”

The woman is picketing that Ministry because, she alleges, there is a
level of animosity between herself and a senior Ministry official over
a particular situation.

Henry is accusing the official of preventing her from being paid,
while urging the attorney-general to stop covering up such
situations and conduct investigations, instead.

The woman says she finds it strange that she is not being paid –
while the person who filled in during her vacation already has
received her money.

Henry, who claims a lot of wickedness is taking place within the
Ministry, reportedly has another issue that is before the Industrial
Court; hence, she could not go into detail about it.

Meanwhile, she was joined in Tuesday’s picket under the blazing sun
by two of her daughters – among the 12 children she and her
husband have jointly.

Ironically, as she and the girls braved the heat, a party with loads of
food and drinks reportedly was being celebrated inside the Ministry
in recognition of a senior officer’s 60th birthday.
