Derelict booths left on the ARG compound will be destroyed and removed ahead of Carnival, Ministry advises owners

Ahead of the annual Carnival festivities, the Government will begin
demolishing the derelict booths that have been left closed at the
Antigua Recreation Grounds (ARG).

The booths in question are situated on the northeastern side of the
main entrance, next to the gate on Coronation Road.

In a media release issued on Sunday, July 9, the Ministry of Creative
Industries appealed to persons who have an ownership interest in
these booths, asking that they remove their personal belongings
from the structures.

This is because the Ministry intends to demolish and remove them
before the commencement of this year’s Carnival events.

It says that, unfortunately, the condition of the structures creates a
hazard in the area, generally, and during the festival, specifically.
Therefore, in the interest of the public, the Ministry will be taking
steps to eliminate the hazard and protect Carnival patrons.

Accordingly, owners are asked to “kindly remove all personal items
or material from the booth[s] within the next two weeks,” since they
will be demolished and removed after this period.

Anyone requesting information about this process should contact
the Ministry of Creative Industries at the Festivals Office on Redcliffe
Street or call (268) 462-0194.

More than a year ago, several vendors were relocated to some small
booths just east of the historic ARG. That move was made to
facilitate the demolition of the derelict Double-Decker Stand.
