High and gusty winds forecast for Thursday afternoon into Friday morning, as weather is affected by passing of TS Bret

High winds are impacting Antigua and Barbuda and these could get
stronger over the next two days, according to forecaster Dale
Destin.

Destin says that exposed coastal waters and elevated and open
terrains on the windward side of the islands will be impacted.
This warning reportedly will be in effect from Thursday afternoon,
June 22, until Friday morning, June 23.

Destin says the strong gusty winds are due to the effect of Tropical
Storm Bret, which will be passing over 200 miles south of the area.

The forecaster says that “the direct wind threat level will be minimal
to life, livelihood, property and infrastructure; notwithstanding,
these winds could make some outdoor activities uncomfortable, if
not outright dangerous.”

The high winds could also create a danger from falling or blowing
objects.

A high wind advisory means strong sustained winds in the range of
25 to 31 mph and 22 to 27 knots, with higher gusts imminent or
occurring.

Potential impacts include injuries; very hazardous seas; soil erosion;
disruptions of some businesses and outdoor and sporting activities;
disruptions of air and sea transportation, and vehicular accidents.

Accordingly, Destin advises residents to secure loose, light, outdoor
items and to be cautious when driving.
