A Villa man has been remanded to His Majesty’s Prison on a charge of gun possession.

Iyanta Thomas appeared before Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh in the St. John’s Magistrates Court on charges of having in his possession an unlicensed 9 mm Ruger pistol and possession of nine 9 mm rounds of ammunition.

Thomas, 22 years old, was arrested and charged by the Police on December 19, after he was found with the illegal items on December 18, at about 7:30 pm on lower North Street.

Reports are that the police received certain intelligence, and officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Tactical Unit; men from the Special Service Unit (SSU); and Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force (ABDF) personnel went on duty at the location where Thomas was seen and the gun and ammunition found in his possession.

He was detained and taken into police custody.
