Opposition leader calls for symposium to explore businesses’ challenges and devise strategies to improve tax compliance

MP Jamale Pringle is recommending that the Gaston Browne
Administration host a symposium for business owners in order to
get its tax-compliance machinery regularized.

The government complains that millions of dollars are being
withheld from its coffers by delinquent businesses who fail to remit
their taxes.

Pringle suggests that, by meeting with the business sector, the
Government would be able to appreciate the challenges they face
and to tailor strategies that assist them – which would result in
companies remitting their taxes.

This outreach is needed, the Opposition leader says, as it is unfair
that only some businesses are shouldering the tax burden.

According to Pringle, the Browne Administration does not appear to
take the business community seriously; but the Government should
remember that, in any economy, the private sector is the engine of
growth.
