Executive declares that ALP’s distribution of hams, turkeys and chickens made Christmas happy for all residents

Cabinet members appear to have convinced themselves that all the
residents of Antigua and Barbuda had an enjoyable Christmas
season, based on the Antigua Labour Party’s distribution of ham,
turkey and chicken over the yuletide season.

The 2023 Christmas period reportedly was discussed during the
Executive’s first meeting of the year, on Wednesday, January 3.

Their assessment, allegedly, is that “it was a good, joyful and merry
Christmas for adults and children alike, spurred on by the
distribution of hams, turkeys, and chickens.”

The “delusional” Cabinet members – as described by one critic – are
of the opinion that the implementation of a 2 percent increase in the
Antigua and Barbuda Sales Tax (ABST) – from 15 percent to 17
percent – “did not dampen the spirit of the Antiguan and Barbudan
population.”

The Executive says, “In fact, there was a renewed faith and
confidence in the ability of the government to provide a raise of 9
percent to its unionized employees, beginning on the first day of
January 2024.”

However, these Cabinet members do not seem to shop at the same
places as the rest of the population, pundits say.

If they did, the observers add, they would have heard people
complaining about the prices of other foodstuff they had to cook
along with the freebies.

The Executive seems to be unaware that many people had to place
their goods one-by-one before the cashier, and once their money
limit was reached, other items had to be left in their baskets.

Some people have shared the opinion that the Gaston Browne
Administration lives in a fairytale world.
