Shop owners are gun-butted during separate robberies in countryside communities

Masked gun-toting robbers continue to keep citizens and residents
this country in fear of their lives and possessions.

The most recent reports of robberies occurred on Sunday,
November 19 –
after two similar incidents were reported on Friday, November 17.

It is alleged that a 68-year-old man, the proprietor of the Pond View
Superette in Old Road, was the victim of robbers who assaulted him
and took his cash pan.

He reported the incident, which took place at about 4:30 a.m., to
the Johnsons Point Police Station.

Allegedly, the man and his wife had gone to open their shop and,
while in the process, they saw an unknown man push open the shop
door, which had been closed but not locked.

The intruder, who is described as about 6’4” in height, is of a slim
build and a brown complexion and was dressed in a pair of black
pants and a red hoodie at the time.

He reportedly pointed what appeared to be a black-handled
handgun with a spin barrel at them and asked, “Where’s the
money?”

The shop owner then grabbed onto the assailant’s hand and tried
to wrestle the gun away from him.

Further reports are that, at this point, another man entered the shop
and hit the owner on the back of the head with a gun; and, as a
result, the victim surrendered.

The other assailant is described as being 5’4” in height, bow-legged,
brown in complexion, and was wearing dark-coloured clothing.

After the assailants demanded money, the man’s wife reportedly
told them that it was in the car and then began to scream.

Reports say the robbers subsequently took the cash pan, containing
$300, and an undisclosed sum of coins from a cash register at the
shop’s entrance.

The duo then fled in an eastern direction, in a silver car that had
been parked in close proximity to the shop.

A search was carried out in the surrounding areas for the assailants
and the stolen money but without success.

Meanwhile, during another incident that reportedly took place at
about 11:45 p.m. on Sunday, November 19, the owner of Johnny’s
Fast Food, located on Matthews Road, All Saints, was robbed.

The American Road resident went to the All Saints Police Station,
along with two companions, and reported that they had been held at
gunpoint by three masked men at the business place.

They were robbed of a cash register containing an undisclosed sum
of Eastern Caribbean currency; a black shoulder bag containing an
undisclosed sum of United States currency and a Lebanese passport;
and a cellular phone.

The three victims were closing up the business when the trio of
unknown men – wearing dark clothing and masks – stormed in
through an east-facing back door.

Two of the intruders were armed with guns and the third with a
cutlass.

Reports say that one intruder struck the proprietor in the head with
the gun and made him lie on the floor while they robbed the
business.

The victim reportedly had to seek medical attention for his injury.

Two of the robbers are said to be dark in complexion, slimly built,
and about 6’ tall, while the third one is approximately 5 ‘7” in
height, brown in complexion, and of a medium build.

A search was carried out in the surrounding areas for the stolen
items and the robbers, but nothing and no one was found.

Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
