Simon says that hurry-done Bolans guardrails may have breached a government contract

The guard rails that were erected on the bridge at the entry to
Bolans Village, last Wednesday night, October 4, may have to be

removed, since they breach contractual agreements made by the
Government.

This was revealed by Kelvin “Shugy” Simon at a United Progressive
Party (UPP) rally in Urlings on Monday night, October 9.
Simon says sources have told him that the metal posts may have to
come down; but he does not expect this will happen until after the
St. Mary’s South by-election.

The Browne Administration has been rushing to complete
infrastructural work ahead of the October 24 poll.
However, Simon says that no qualified structural engineer was
consulted on the erection of the guard rails before the work
commenced.

Rather, he says, the Administration went ahead with the project in
another attempt to trick the people of St. Mary’s South.
He laments the rush to complete the bridge and, in doing so, break
contracts, when the project could have been done the right way.
Accordingly, the UPP candidate sees it as a waste of taxpayers’
money.

Simon continues to encourage constituents not to be fooled by the
“smoke and mirrors” tactics of the Labour Party Government, since
all the work being done is only to influence the outcome of the by-
election.

Last Thursday, October 5, Simon shot a video highlighting the bridge
work that had been undertaken overnight, within the space of four
to five hours.

Earlier this year, during a parliamentary debate, Simon had pleaded
for rails to be erected at the bridge.

And while he had initially expressed satisfaction at having them
finally installed, he also expressed concern about their stability,
given the materials used and the short time in which the work was
completed.

The job reportedly had not been tendered.
