Woman, 32, is in police custody in connection with smuggled marijuana valued at nearly a half-million dollars

Almost a half-million dollars worth of marijuana was seized by law-enforcement officers at the country’s main cargo port, and a female is in custody assisting with investigations.

The Police are reporting that 80 pounds of marijuana were seized at the Deep Water Harbour on Wednesday, April 26, during a joint drug operation conducted with the Customs Department.

Reportedly, they discovered 69 packages of the illegal substance hidden among food items in two barrels.  Reports say the marijuana has an estimated street value of $480,000.

The barrels were seized and taken to the police station, and a 32-year-old female was detained as a result of the discovery.
