Major diversions to traffic today, as resurfacing of Old Parham Road continues below Nugent Avenue and up to Coronation Rd

Traffic on the Old Parham Road will be interrupted for most of today, October 27, as resurfacing work on a section of that roadway continues under the Second Road Infrastructure Rehabilitation Project.

Accordingly, a new traffic-management plan – with diversions – is in effect between Nugent Ave (west of the YASCO Sports Complex to His Majesty’s Prison on Coronation Road and the Antigua Recreation Grounds – even as the National Youth Rally is being staged inside the Grounds.

Traffic going west on Old Parham Road will be diverted left on Nugent Avenue, then west on Factory Road to return to that road either from Coronation Road, or from Independence Drive.

Officials say that motorists traveling eastbound from the roundabout will divert right onto Coronation Road, then east on Factory Road, before returning to Old Parham Road via Nugent Avenue.

Northbound traffic on Independence Drive intending to go east will be made to divert right onto Factory Road (north of the War Memorial), then left onto Coronation Road.

According to officials, drivers going north on Independence Drive and intending to turn left at the roundabout will have to divert left onto Church Street, right on Church Lane, then right on Newgate Street, and left on Cross Street in order to get to Friars Hill Road.

Those motorists heading south on Friars Hill Road and intending to get to Independence Drive or Old Parham Road will continue onto Cross Street, then make a left on Long Street and towards Independence Drive.

All road users are being advised to proceed with caution when travelling in the work zones.

This work is expected to run for several hours; therefore, direct access to Old Parham Road will be restricted from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
