Gun and ammunition possession lands three men before the court, while cops investigate rape report

Two men are expected before a Magistrate today, April 25, on gun and ammunition charges.

Rashaan Brookes, 33, of Yorks and 36-year- old Keishan Hughes of Bendals have been jointly charged with possession of a Taurus 9 mm pistol and 12 rounds of corresponding ammunition.

The Police say they executed a search warrant at the Yorks residence that both men occupy and found the illegal items. The pair was taken into custody, questioned and later charged.

This offense reportedly occurred on Friday, April 22.

Meanwhile, a 45-year-old man was convicted last week for possession of a gun and ammunition.

Marlon Charles of Langfords appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Dexter Wason in the St. John’s Magistrates Court, charged with possession of a 9mm bullet and a firearm magazine.

He pleaded guilty and was fined $5,000 –  payable in seven days – for having the magazine in his possession. Charles was also fined $2,000 for the single bullet.

The court has given him until July 27 to pay the money, or he will be imprisoned for two years on each count – with the sentence to run concurrently.

And, in more police news, officers are investigating the alleged rape of a teenager.

REAL News was reliably informed that the girl’s mother made a report of the incident to the Police last week.

Reports say she took the 14-year-old to the Special Victims Unit and reported that the child had been raped by an unknown male.

While the report was made only recently, our News Department understands that the alleged offence occurred sometime between February 14 and 28 at a local sporting facility.
