Consumer Affairs Division alerts residents to possible contamination of batches of scented Pine-Sol cleaners

Another recall is taking place in the United States and the local Prices and Consumer Affairs Division is advising consumers here to be on the lookout for the affected product.

Reports say that parent company Clorox is recalling its Pine-Sol scented multi-surface cleaners because of the risk of contamination.

Further reports say the recalled products might have been exposed to harmful bacteria, one of which is an organism found widely in soil and water.

The recall involves Pine-Sol multi-surface cleaners in Lavender Clean, Sparkling Wave, and Lemon Fresh scents; CloroxPro Pine-Sol All Purpose Cleaners in Lavender Clean, Sparkling Wave, Lemon Fresh, and Orange Energy scents; and Clorox Professional Pine-Sol Lemon Fresh Cleaners.

Their date codes begin with the prefix “A4” and are followed by a five-digit number that is lower than 22249.

The Prices and Consumer Affairs Division says the products consumers should be on the lookout for are sold in bottles of 28, 48, 60, 100, 144, and 175 fluid ounces.

“To date, testing has identified bacteria in certain of these recalled products, including those produced between January 2021 and September 2022,” the manufacturer’s alert says.

Therefore, the Division is advising consumers who may have purchased these products to discontinue use and to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

According to the manufacturer, the bacteria can enter the body if inhaled; through the eyes; or through a break in the skin. However, people with healthy immune systems are usually not affected by bacteria.

Members of the public may also contact the Prices and Consumer Affairs Division at 462-4347 or consumeraffairs@ab.gov.ag for additional information or assistance.

Reportedly the Original Pine-Sol (Pine scent) is not included in this recall.
