After delay in distribution, former LIAT and CAS workers receive supermarket vouchers from Workers’ Union today

The Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union will be distributing supermarket vouchers to almost 200 former employees of LIAT (1974) Ltd. and Caribbean Airport Services (CAS), today, April 29.

The Union, in March, announced a gift-voucher initiative in partnership with Billy’s Food Mart, as it continues to offer assistance to displaced workers from these entities, many of whom are still struggling and unemployed.

The initiative was conceived by the Union’s Management and Executive.

The voucher has a value of $200 and can be used for the purchase of food or other household items, and is redeemable at the Friars Hill Road supermarket.

Chester Hughes, the Union’s Deputy General-Secretary, says that distribution was delayed because of certain issues.

Hughes says that other issues also had to be worked out before the vouchers were issued.

The Union says it is delighted to assist this cohort of members who have been particularly disadvantaged, and it assures the former LIAT and CAS workers that it will continue to stand with them in this difficult time.

Meanwhile, Hughes says the Workers’ Union has done everything in its power to assist displaced workers, including those in the hotel sector.
