Youth shot during alleged restaurant break-in remains in critical condition; business owner says he shot in self defence

Police continue to investigate the shooting of a young man who allegedly broke into the Roti King restaurant on St. Mary’s Street.

The youth, reportedly, is in critical condition at the hospital.

Reports say that he and another male broke into the popular eatery during the early-morning hours of Easter Monday, April 18.

Further reports say the alarm system was triggered at the proprietor’s home, which led him to drive into town to investigate the matter. The businessman is a licensed firearm holder.

He reportedly told the Police that, when he got to his restaurant, he observed two men inside snooping about.  It is alleged that the owner instructed the duo not to move, at which time one shouted to the other, ordering that the businessman be shot.

At this point, reportedly, the businessman opened fire on the intruders, striking one in the left shoulder. The other man then reportedly escaped, running from the restaurant.

Lawmen are still in search of the alleged robber.  Anyone with information on his whereabouts or identity is encouraged to contact the nearest police station.
