The United Progressive Party (UPP) has plans to transform the Fiennes Institute into a modern geriatric facility that will meet the important needs of its elderly residents, says Franz deFreitas, Candidate for St. John’s City South.
DeFreitas says the proposed facility will offer a wide range of services, including day care for seniors.
The lone government-run elder-care home is in dire need of attention, deFreitas says, since it has been plagued by a number of issues over the years – moreso in recent months, with the lack of water and another COVID-19 outbreak.
Referring to the spate of virus infections, deFreitas notes that keeping persons in a small, confined space is a recipe for disaster.
The UPP Candidate is calling out the Minister of Health, Sir Molwyn Joseph, under whose portfolio the Fiennes Institute falls, to urgently address the shortcomings of the residential facility.
