Traffic Dept Head cautions owners to secure appropriate insurance before renting their private vehicles

Persons who lease their private vehicles must insure them under the right coverage, cautions Assistant Superintendent of Police Rodney Ellis, Head of the Traffic Department in the Police Force.

These days, Ellis says, a number of persons have resorted to renting their personal vehicles in order to earn extra money.

While this is not illegal, private-vehicle insurance does not cover a lease agreement, Ellis says.  Therefore, the owner must secure insurance coverage that applies to a lease and not private use.

The Traffic Department Head says that claiming private-insurance coverage for a leased or rented vehicle may prove to be difficult for the owner of the vehicle.
