Point residents’ quick reaction to house fire averts another serious incident on Tuesday night

Residents in The Point were able to avoid a serious scenario like last week in which a fire destroyed four homes and partially damaged two.

A fire that occurred in Booby Alley on Tuesday night, March 15, was quickly extinguished due to the prompt action of residents, who had to haul buckets of water to put out the blaze.

Reports are that the fire started in in the kitchen area of an abandoned house. The exact cause of the blaze is now under investigation by the Fire Department.

Further reports are that officers from the St. John’s Fire Station later arrived on the scene and ensured that the fire was properly extinguished.

This fire comes five days after an inferno – last Thursday (March 10) – razed several St. George Street houses, leaving a number of families homeless.

That fire is still under investigation to determine its cause, even though Prime Minister Gaston Browne has said that it was the result of someone smoking.
