Swift action by Police leads to apprehension of Upper Gambles man suspected of Sunday afternoon’s shooting

A man who allegedly was involved in an altercation that resulted in
a shooting on Sunday afternoon, March 24, is now in police custody,
assisting with investigations into the incident.

Media reports suggest that quick action by the Police resulted in the
suspect being apprehended.

Sources say that officers received information that took them to
Paynters, where they found the alleged offender, a 27-year-old
Upper Gambles man.

He was transported to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, where he
was seen by a doctor, but, allegedly, he refused medical attention.

He was then arrested on suspicion of having committed the lower
All Saints Road shooting and taken into custody at the St. John’s
Police Station.

Further reports say that a white Honda FIT motor car, registration
number A64914, was seized and taken to Police Headquarters, along
with one revolver and one Bryco Jennings T .380 pistol, in addition
to four .380 spent shells that were recovered at the scene.

Following questioning, the man is likely to face serious charges,
including shooting with intent to murder.

The victim, a 25-year-old Tanner Street resident, was shot in the left
side of his neck during the dispute: an injury that landed him in the
hospital.

Reports say that the single bullet caused a sinus fracture, nasal
fracture, and a mandible fracture.

The young man remains hospitalized and is said to be in stable
condition, and he is expected to undergo further medical
examination.

It is alleged that the two men were involved in a heated argument
when the suspect left, went to his vehicle, and retrieved a gun.

He reportedly returned to the scene and shot the victim in the face,
near the mouth, before driving from the location.

Motorists and pedestrians in the vicinity of Sammy’s Supermarket
were said to be shocked by what transpired right before their eyes.

Reportedly, the incident occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. and
was reported to the Criminal Investigations Department by a 911
emergency operator.
