CID reluctant to investigate an MP accused of fraud in a jewelry sale, sources claim

A Member of Parliament is the subject of a criminal investigation
for fraud, law-enforcement sources say, in a matter involving the
purchase of jewelry.

It is alleged that the parliamentarian bought the jewelry – valued
at approximately $15,000 from a Heritage Quay business place in early February, and paid
for the items with a credit card.

It is alleged, further, that, following the sale, and while the
payment was pending, the MP stopped the transaction at his
bank.

The business owner is said to have reported this matter to the
Police. However, inside sources are claiming that officers in the
Criminal Investigations Department (CID) are reluctant to
investigate the complaint because of the identity of the MP and
his clout.

Accordingly, the sources allege, officers are advising the business
owner to pursue the matter in civil court and recover his money by
this means.

The sources point out that another citizen, Jessica Thompson,
was arrested only last week for a similar offence, and are
decrying the double standard in the police responses.
In the meantime, the business owner is said to be weighing his
options on how to get his money from the influential MP.
