Health Ministry says latest COVID-19 dashboard is a fake and was created to mislead the public

The Ministry of Health and Wellness is condemning the circulation
of an unauthorized COVID-19 dashboard that was brought to its
attention on Monday, November 27.

The Ministry says the creators of the fake chart are trying to
convince the public that the dashboard was published by the Health
Ministry on November 26, with alleged statistics –including
vaccinations – as of November 25, 2023.

The reportedly fake dashboard alleges that there are nine new
infections; three hospitalizations; and 17 cases in isolation.

Using the established format, the dashboard shows the supposed
number of active cases, recoveries, deaths, and vaccinations.

This action can mislead the public and can create unnecessary
worry, the Ministry complains.

Therefore, it is issuing a stern warning against the unauthorized
editing and distribution of COVID-19 dashboard data, and creating
the false impression that it originated within the Ministry.
Updates to the COVID-19 dashboard were suspended almost two
years ago, it says; therefore, the use of the outdated dashboard is a
clear attempt to mislead the country.

The dashboard went viral on Monday, creating some degree of
shock and panic among residents who took it to be the genuine
article.

Many were relieved to learn it was “fake news.” But some skeptics
told our Newsroom they would not be surprised to hear, later, that
the figures were real and were being hidden from the public.

In the meantime, the Ministry of Health says that residents seeking
authentic and updated information should refer only to official
announcements from its authorized communication channels.
