Sale of Alfa Nero reportedly under discussion again, while court challenge to Government is set to be heard on February 26

Once again, according to inside sources, the Gaston Browne
Administration is engaged in discussions with potential buyers on
the sale of the Alfa Nero superyacht. However, they say, the sale is
subject to due diligence.

On the other hand, other reports claim that there is yet another legal
challenge to the Government – this time from someone who alleges
he was deprived of the opportunity to purchase the vessel, once
owned by a Russian oligarch.

Weeks ago, it was announced that the Browne Administration was
placing the lawsuit-riddled yacht back on the auction block. This
statement was withdrawn days later, with the authorities saying
that a sale was not being contemplated at the time due to several
court challenges.

However, the latest reports confirm that a court hearing on the
ownership dispute will begin on Monday, February 26, and media
sources say that Port Manager Darwin Telemaque has expressed
confidence that the luxury yacht – anchored in Falmouth Harbour
since early 2022 – will soon have a new owner.

In the meantime, the leader of the Opposition, MP Jamale Pringle,
says that maintaining the Alfa Nero has been a strain on the backs of
the people. And he is asking when the Government will put away its

dream of selling the vessel and take care of the people’s needs,
instead.
