DeFreitas falls victim to ‘lawless’ and unrepentant traffic violator and is now forced to make offense a police matter

Franz deFreitas, the United Progressive Party (UPP) caretaker for St.
John’s City South, reports that his plea for a traffic violator to come
forward has fallen on deaf ears.

Last week, deFreitas says, he was driving on Mahico Drive when a
driver, whose path was blocked, forced his way through oncoming
traffic and clipped his side mirror. Reportedly, the unknown mini-
van driver failed to stop and simply continued on his way.

Reports say that deFreitas was able to obtain information on the
van’s registration. However, he says, he did not really want to get
the person into more trouble by reporting the incident to the Police.
Hence, on the following day, the caretaker made a forceful plea to
the person to contact him and deal with the matter.

The driver had already broken several traffic laws, including
careless driving, failing to report an accident, and leaving the scene
of an accident.

But since the offending driver had the entire weekend to contact
him and failed to do so, deFreitas says he will be taking the matter to
the Police, after all.

This incident has caused the UPP caretaker to conclude that Antigua
and Barbuda is home to a type of lawlessness in which people feel
they can get away with anything.

But, he says, this behaviour is passed down from the present
political administration.
