CIBC FirstCaribbean and Ministry of Education team up to honour top achievers in the 2023 Grade 6 Assessment

Students who topped the 2023 Grade Six National Assessment were
honoured by the CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank in a special
ceremony on Thursday, December 7.

The awards recognized the performance of students who placed in
the top 100 positions following the exam, with a total of 103
children actually being awarded in the gold, silver and bronze
categories.

The top achiever, Sophia Aflak, a former student of the St. Nicholas
Primary School, received the Minister of Education Award for her
outstanding performance, a release from the Ministry of Education
says.
 
Aflak secured an overall score of 379 out of a possible 400 points in
the two-day assessment held on June 7 and 8.
 
Among the honourees at Thursday’s ceremony was Carhira Gerald,
the top performer in the public-school system. Gerald, who
attended the Golden Grove Primary School, attained 371 marks out
of 400.
 
In his congratulatory remarks, Minister of Education, Sports and
Creative Industries Daryll Matthew noted that the grades were
not just numbers on a piece of paper; rather, they were a reflection
of the students’ hard work, passion, and commitment to learning.
 
Matthew said their achievements were a testament to the countless
hours they had spent studying; the questions they had asked; and
the challenges they overcame.
 
He told the students and their proud parents that their success is a
result of their curiosity, their ability to think critically, and their
unwavering determination to strive for excellence.
 
This is the 11th  year that the Bank has teamed up with the Ministry
of Education to recognize the scholastic achievements of Grade
Sixers in both public and private schools.
